Their performance sent me to YouTube to find my favorites from the them. My plan is to go to iTunes to get their new album, if the other songs are as great as 'Grace' which they performed on the O show. Oprah says it her new favorite songs. I never really they had so many hit songs, I'm listening on YouTube and converting them to audio and video playable on my iPod so I can drive to it. Sade is making me sleepy on my drive home. They are both so beautiful. His voice is too powerful for me to resist. Her hair and teeth, wow. I see why Crest had her as a spokesmodel. He looks awesome with the grey beard and the clothes just make it all hot. Is that ok to say about a gospel group?

Riot police separate two sides at demonstration over dragging death

An unidentified black activist, left, films a protester with a bullhorn during a demonstration in Paris, Texas, on Tuesday. The face-off between black and white protesters began with a march through downtown by about 100 blacks. They were protesting the state's handling of the case of a black man who was run over and dragged by a vehicle.

PARIS, Texas - State police in riot gear rushed a downtown street in this eastern Texas town Tuesday to break up a tense standoff between hundreds of black and white protesters who exchanged screams of "Black power!" and "White power!"

A skinhead carrying a Confederate flag and a shirtless white man were arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct before the protesters separated peacefully, Paris police spokesman Lt. Danny Huff said.

The conflict began with a march through downtown by about 100 black activists who were protesting the state's handling of the case of a black man who was run over and dragged by a vehicle. The demonstrators avoided a designated "protest zone" near the courthouse and marched to the town square to chants of "Black Power!" and "No Justice, no peace!"

McGruff the Crime Dog Attacked in DC

McGruff Gets Roughed Up
in D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - McGruff the crime dog has been roughed up.

D.C. police say the mascot, who urges children to "take a bite out of crime," became a victim Saturday when a bus driver punched him in the face as he handed fliers to children.

Police say the Metro bus driver, 38-year-old Shawn Brim, climbed off the bus, adjusted both sideview mirrors and then swung at Officer Tyrone Hardy, who was dressed as McGruff. The incident happened at the corner of 14th Street and Spring Road in Columbia Heights.

Police say McGruff staggered, children screamed and the bus driver drove off. Officers quickly pulled him over and charged him with assault.

"Apparently he pulled over to adjust his mirrors and there was a McGruff mascot working with some people, and he walked over and apparently slugged the mascot," said Lisa Farbstein, a Metro spokesperson. "And I couldn't even begin to tell you what he was thinking."

"He apparently told one of the supervisors that he thought it would be funny," Farbstein continued. "But I can assure you that absolutely nobody here thinks that's funny."

Farbstein says Brim is on paid administrative leave. He has been on the job for more than five years.

"Right now, his future with our transit authority is under serious review," said Farbstein.

FOX 5 went by Brim's home in Northwest Washington on Tuesday, but he wasn't home. Court records show he has had run-ins with the law before: a 1990 arrest in the District for carrying a gun, a 1994 charge for possession of PCP, and a 2006 prostitution charge.

None of those arrests led to formal charges.

FOX 5 also visited Officer Hardy at his home on Tuesday. The 20-year MPD veteran was in good spirits, and said he was going back to work on Wednesday. He said he couldn't talk about the incident or anything else officially on camera. The Story

I was at the 'We Are One' Obama Inauguration Concert

I was a part of history yesterday. I arrived at the Smithsonian Metro stop and got up onto the Mall in DC, not too far from the base of the Washington Monument just as Jack Black was addressing the audience. People were just hanging around as if nothing was going on, but I could see a migration of part of the audience towards the Lincoln Memorial which was where the stage was. I found this live blog on USAToday's site, it breaks down everything that happened when it happened. The crowd went beserko everytime they showed Barack Obama in the audience. We Were One, it was so beautiful seeing the racial make-up off the crowd. All ages and colors, coming together for one common cause.

I found these pictures on Flickr, awesome.

Actual time everything happened yesterday.

Start at the bottom, we missed alot in that first hour, but it started right on time, Denzel was on while I was at my car, its all good, just glad I went. Nobody really paying attention anyway until Barack spoke. I'm just happy to say I went.

Update at 5:35 p.m. ET: Before we go, though, we should note that the crowd was estimated at 400,000 and that there's a USA TODAY staff story about the concert here.

Update at 4:26 p.m. ET. The concert has concluded. The Obamas and Bidens are on stage shaking hands and thanking the performers.

As U2 finishes Pride, Bono shouts "let freedom ring!" and tells Obama that it's an honor for "four boys from Dublin" to sing for him. That leads the band into City of Blinding Lights, a song often heard at Obama rallies last year and known for it's crowd-pleasing "oh, you look so beautiful tonight" line.

Samuel L. Jackson speaks of Martin Luther King Jr. and the speech he gave at the Lincoln Memorial and that leads to Irish rockers U2 -- arguably the world's biggest band -- playing their tribute to Dr. King Pride (In the Name of Love).

Fans may recall that this isn't the first time U2's lead singer, Bono, has performed at the memorial. He was there at the turn of millennium concert.

Let's Go to the Inauguration!

WTOP radio has been so negative everyday about the inauguration, that I have decided to go. You can listen yourself on iTunes radio or on their website. The worse coverage seems to go on during the morning rush. Here's why, we have to listen to them to get Traffic and Weather together on the 8's. They do good traffic coverage and I'm actually addicted to the station's new coverage.

This morning I learned that I should bring my own toilet tissue, oh and the metro rail system may collapse under the strain of so many riders. Then, the Question of the Day is whether or not the all of the negative press is scaring you away from the inauguration. Oh, then one commentator, talks about how he hopes the Jumbotrons don't freeze and break down and how bad that would be if we all went down there and the screens didn't work. Oh, in the same sentence came a little positive information. You can listen to the Swearing In on a handheld radio. On what station, you ask? WTOP, of course.

COSMETICS giant L'Oreal has been accused of lightening Beyonce's skin tone in a new series of magazine ads.

The new magazine ads for Feria hair colour feature in the September issues of Elle, Allure and Essence in the US, and show the pop star with a noticably lighter skin tone.

Gossip website TMZ compared the ad with another photo of Beyonce showing her with noticeably darker skin tones.

It ran a poll alongside the comparison asking, 'Is the ad a slap to blacks?'

But L'Oreal hit back saying: "We highly value our relationship with Ms. Knowles.

"It is categorically untrue that L'Oreal Paris altered Ms. Knowles' features or skin tone in the campaign for Feria hair color," the Paris-based company said in a statement sent to the Associated Press through the singer's representative.

The ad is in the current edition of Elle magazine.

L'Oreal, the maker of Garnier hair care and Lancome cosmetics, is the world's largest cosmetics maker.

A representative for Beyonce said the singer would have no comment beyond L'Oreal's statement.

Beyonce has been a spokeswoman for L'Oreal since 2001.

"When we came back on the bus... he was cutting the guy's head off and pretty much gutting him up," Mr Caton said.

The attacker ran at them, Mr Caton said, and they ran out of the bus, holding the door shut to prevent him getting out.

"He calmly walks up to the front [of the bus] with the head in his hand and the knife and just calmly stares at us and drops the head right in front of us," Mr Caton said.

"There was no rage in him ... It was just like he was a robot or something," he added.

In the last 17 years, no vehicle in America outsold the Ford F-150 on a monthly or yearly basisânot once. In May of this year, however, Honda moved more Civics and Accords and Toyota more Corollas and Camrys than Fordâs best-seller. America has been sideswiped by the $4 gallon and auto industry heads believe the higher gas prices are permanent, not just a temporary shift or spike.

From a manufacturing perspective, itâs increasingly difficult to build fuel-sipping vehicles, as current safety and emissions technologies add weight, a primary nemesis of fuel economy. Hybrid technology and low mass are the most cost-effective strategies to better fuel economy, and the bulk of our list of the ten most fuel-efficient vehicles utilize one or both. Toyota plays both sides, managing to field three of the top tenâfour if you count the Nissan Altima, which uses the Toyota Camryâs hybrid drive system under license.

That five of the vehicles on our list are hybrids is a harbinger of things to come. Although thereâs only one diesel in this group, expect that to change. The following vehicles are ranked according to their EPA combined fuel-economy ratings. Since the EPA calculation favors city mileage, that number is used here as a tie-breaker.

TIJUANA, Mexico, June 15 (UPI) -- California motorists are heading across the U.S.-Mexico border into Tijuana to escape record-high gas prices, officials say.
Although diesel was in short supply in Saturday at some Tijuana gas stations, they are keeping up with increased demand for regular unleaded and premium gasoline, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported Sunday.
Regular unleaded gasoline sells for $2.54 per gallon in the city, premium for $3.20 per gallon and diesel for $2.20 per gallon, the newspaper reported.

At a filling station on Bellas Artes Boulevard, about two blocks from the Otay Mesa border crossing, the station began selling diesel only to its regular trucking customers Friday afternoon. Gasoline in Mexico comes from Pemex, the national oil company, and is subsidized by the federal government.

A spokeswoman for the association that represents the 157 gas stations in Tijuana said recently demand had increased 25 percent in the first five months of this year compared with 2007.

Needles, CA. The first gas station coming into the state on I-40, also the only town with gas stations for about 60 Miles. This was the cheapest in town. Another station was selling for regular unleaded for $5.29, thats a full dollar higher than the most expensive gas in Arizona which was $4.33, also in a town with the only gas for 60 or so miles. Until this stop, we had not paid over $3.90 for gas since Illinois. Needless to say, we only bought enough gas to et to the next town, where gas prices were much more reasonable.

NEW YORK (AP) â Randi Rhodes has quit the Air America radio network, a week after it suspended her for using a derogatory word for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton during an event in San Francisco.

Air America Media released a statement Thursday saying the talk show host informed the company Wednesday night that she was severing ties with the liberal network.

"We wish her well and thank her for past services to Air America," said the statement issued by Air America Media chairman Charlie Kireker and its president, Mark Green. They didn't announce who might replace her.

The network suspended Rhodes indefinitely for what it said was "abusive, obscene language" during an off-air event sponsored by affiliate KKGN-AM in San Francisco on March 22.

During a curse-filled standup routine, Rhodes ranted about Clinton, called former congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro "David Duke in drag," and joked that both women were "whores." Ferraro resigned from Clinton's presidential campaign after she got in trouble for what some considered racially insensitive remarks about Barack Obama.

Rhodes' comments weren't broadcast, but a video of her performance circulated on the Internet.

Rhodes' lawyer, Robert Gaulin, said the company had told the host she couldn't begin broadcasting again unless she made contract concessions.

"Their actions caused the contract to terminate. They refused to give her her microphone back and put her on the air," he said. "It was a real shame. She was ready, willing and able to go to work."

Gaulin said Rhodes is exploring other broadcasting options. LINK

Keys Talks About Her Conspiracy Theories

NEW YORK (AP) â There's another side to Alicia Keys: conspiracy theorist. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter tells Blender magazine: "`Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. `Gangsta rap' didn't exist."

Keys, 27, said she's read several Black Panther autobiographies and wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck "to symbolize strength, power and killing 'em dead," according to an interview in the magazine's May issue, on newsstands Tuesday.

Another of her theories: That the bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled "by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing."

Keys' AK-47 jewelry came as a surprise to her mother, who is quoted as telling Blender: "She wears what? That doesn't sound like Alicia." Keys' publicist, Theola Borden, said Keys was on vacation and unavailable for comment.

Though she's known for her romantic tunes, she told Blender that she wants to write more political songs. If black leaders such as the late Black Panther Huey Newton "had the outlets our musicians have today, it'd be global. I have to figure out a way to do it myself," she said.

The multiplatinum songstress behind the hits "Fallin'" and "No One" most recently had success with her latest CD, "As I Am," which sold millions.

Man Charged With Child Endangerment For Storing Gun In Oven

CHICAGO (CBS) â A man has been charged with child endangerment and unlawful gun use after a gun that he apparently kept in the oven went off and wounded two children in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

He looks pissed!!

Anthony Smith, 24, was charged with two counts of endangering the life of a child and one count of unlawful use of a weapon, after the two boys, 4 and 12, were wounded when the gun went off as the oven was being heated.

The sister of the two boys was cooking at the stove at 3:55 p.m. Friday at a home in the 4800 block of South Racine Avenue, when she heard loud noises coming from it, police said. The sister heard the 4-year-old boy cry out and saw blood coming from his leg, and the older boy was hit in the head with flying debris.

The 4-year-old boy was taken to Children's Memorial Hospital, where he was in stable condition as of Saturday with a gunshot wound to the leg. The 12-year-old boy was treated and released from Children's Memorial for treatment of his head wound, police said.

Court information for Smith was not immediately available.

Martha Smith, 80, shot a mountain lion her dog, Bo, had cornered in some trees in her yard with her .22 caliber rifle.

The light was already fading when 80-year-old Martha Smith heard her dog Bo barking furiously outside her Fairburn ranch house late last Thursday afternoon.

She looked outside and saw Bo, a Border collie, facing off with a snarling mountain lion.

So Smith, who was home alone, grabbed her .22-caliber rifle, walked outside and fired a shot at the lion. She missed. "He was a little uphill, and I should have raised the barrel more," Smith said.

She hadn't fired the rifle much in recent years.

Smith went back inside and called 911, but the dispatcher had trouble finding someone from Game, Fish & Parks to come out right away and take care of the lion.

So Smith grabbed the .22 again and went back outside where Bo was keeping the lion at bay.

She admits she was a little nervous because she couldn't see well enough to tell whether the lion was big or small. "All I could see was three feet of tail switching, and it was snarling and spitting at me," she said.

"I knew I'd have to kill him. You can't have a mountain lion in your yard," she said.

She walked to within about 20 or 25 feet of the lion and fired. "I got as close as I could," Smith said. "I figured he'd run. I waited until he lifted his leg to run, and I got him right in the chest where his heart would be."

Smith, a retired nurse anesthetist who has also doctored dogs and cats on the ranch, said she had a good idea where the lion's heart was located.

She hit him with one shot. The lion jumped up, ran a short distance and dropped to the ground.

Smith went outside her yard gate and found the cat dead.

A GF&P staffer showed up a few hours later, measured the cat and brought it to Rapid City.

GF&P regional wildlife manager John Kanta estimated that the 6-month-old lion weighed 30 to 40 pounds.

Smith said initially she was worried the young lion's mother was around.

But the young cat had been fitted with a collar, so GF&P was able to determine that its mother had been shot by a hunter last fall.

"Thank God he was little, because I don't think my .22 would have killed a big one," Smith said.

Kanta agreed that a .22-caliber rifle probably wouldn't have killed a full-grown lion. GF&P staffers use high-powered rifles when they have to kill a problem lion.

Smith said she would like to get the cat mounted and display it at Fairburn's new museum. Kanta said GF&P does not return mountain lion carcasses to private individuals but does allow lion carcasses to be mounted and loaned to public places, such as museums, where they can be exhibited for educational purposes. The state retains ownership, he said.

Kanta said Smith was justified in shooting the lion because she was protecting her property and her animals.

Smith lives on the family ranch where she was raised and learned to shoot. "My sister and I were taught to shoot when we were young. We were put on a horse with our lunch and a gun, and we were sent to the pasture to herd sheep," she said. "So you learn to shoot -- you know, rattlesnakes and rabbits and coyotes."

Smith said she isn't a hunter and doesn't do a lot of shooting. "But a person never forgets how to shoot," she said.

Smith also has a bigger rifle, a .30-30, but it kicks too hard, so she isn't keeping it loaded until a neighbor finishes making lighter-load rounds for her.

But Smith said she always keeps her .22 rifle loaded. She said, "What good's a gun if it's not loaded?"

Black News Crew Attacked by White Trailer Family

Black anchor goes to cover a story in a trailer park of a guy killing his grandfather and all hell breaks loose.

COLUMBIA, South Carolina: Three people upset that a news crew was reporting on the arrest of a relative attacked the television reporter and yelled racial slurs at her and a photographer, authorities said.

The family members, all white, began yelling and charged at black WSPA-TV reporter Charmayne Brown while she was standing in the street near the family's home in Union, said news director Alex Bongiorno on Tuesday.

Brown was punched in the head, and black cameraman Ti Barnes was also struck as he tried to pull family members off Brown, Bongiorno said. A video of the attack shows Brown, who was not seriously injured, defending herself.

"I think she's more affected by the verbal abuse than the physical abuse. She's really shaken up," Bongiorno said.

The fight was taped by a white crew from a second television station. They were not attacked.

âNow first of all with all due respect, with all due respect," he said here during a town hall meeting. "I won twice as many states as Sen. Clinton. I won more of the popular vote than Sen. Clinton. I have more delegates than Sen. Clinton. So I donâtâ know how someone in second place can offer the vice presidency to someone in first place. If I was in second place I could understand but I am in first place right now.

PHOENIX - A man renting a Valley home took out his frustration with the homeowners in a very public way.

The renter attached a controversial sign on an existing sign in the front yard of the home near 12th Street and Rose Lane.

The sign reads "Whites Only."

It was spotted hanging from a "for rent" sign at an apartment complex on 11th Street and Rose Lane.

It was only up for a few hours and taken down by a passing motorist who couldnât stand the sight of it.

However, in that time it managed to raise much concern and even more questions.

The sign was on display just a few feet from an elementary school.

Colleen saw it after her kids were dropped off for school.

Controversial renter sign

Ronald Wilburn says he's the one who put the racist sign up.

He says he did it to spark outrage and draw attention to the fact that he is being evicted from his apartment here.

Wilburn says he is being kicked out for throwing loud parties and causing too much of a ruckus regarding a recent break-in at his place.

But the property manager tells a different story.

He says Wilburn wouldn't pay rent and he received so many threats from Wilburn he had to get a restraining order.

I remember when I wanted to become a bodybuilder back in 94-95. There was a girl in the dorm, she was very pale, she and I would go to the gym on base on work out. She was caught up in a famous bodybuilder named Shawn Ray. She actually knew him, kind of. She was like a nice stalker/fan. She worked out so hard and was very strong but you couldn't see the muscle under her, lets just say skin. She wasn't fat, she was just more like a lumberjack, where you know the person is strong, they are just not cut up. I would lift weights while watching Angela Bassett all muscled up in What's Love Got to Do With It. I wanted those muscles. I knew all the guys in Muscle & Fitness, kept up with the Mr Olympia contests, I even took supplements later on. No, not that, just Creatine and lil stuff like that. I only took that once though.

HAVANA (AP) - An ailing, 81-year-old Fidel Castro resigned as Cuba's president Tuesday after nearly a half-century in power, saying he will not accept a new term when parliament meets Sunday.

The end of Castro's rule - the longest in the world for a head of government - frees his 76-year-old brother Raul to implement reforms he has hinted at since taking over as acting president when Fidel Castro fell ill in July 2006. President Bush said he hopes the resignation signals the beginning of a democratic transition.

I'm loving the primaries, I love Presidential elections. This podcast will be fast moving from here on out, so keep updating your iTunes everday. Now that I have my iRiver I can do a show anywhere/anytime. I particularly like the accoustics of the room that houses the toilet. These shows are coming out fast and furious. White voters say Clinton unfairly attacked Obama...

I'm loving that Drudge is covering the Angry Black Man known to all as Bill Clinton. He is wilding out lately and people aren't use to seeing this side of him. Its a big turn off. Some will say that this is politics, but Bill Clinton has been in politics dang near all of my life and I've never seen him lose it like he is now. He was cool, calm and collected even when he came under attack from the Republicans over his Monica ordeal. If ever there was a time that he should have gotten angry that was it. He has campaigned many times before and we've never seen him this mean. It reminds of me of when Bill Cosby came out all of sudden attacking Black America after seeing him selling pudding pops all my life. Its just weird.

DJ cancels party for 'light-skinned' Blacks

A local DJ and party promoter retreated Thursday from a plan to sponsor a bash that would let "light-skinned" black women into a downtown club for free. But the "Light Skin Libra Birthday Bash" at Club APT on Woodward Avenue turned out to be a bashing -- of promoter Ulysses "DJ Lish" Barnes after word of the unusual party spread on the Internet.

"I made a mistake," Barnes said. "I didn't think there would be a backlash."

Barnes, who said he's been a party promoter for six years, canceled the event. He said he has gotten angry calls and e-mails from around the country about the party.

"I didn't mean to offend anyone," he said. "I had planned a party for other shades (of black women). We were going to take a shade of color each week. Next week was going to be a party for 'Sexy Chocolate' and the week after that 'Sexy Caramel.'â"

Barnes is African-American and describes himself as "dark skinned." The issue of skin color is an often painful and emotional among African-Americans. The history of slavery and the resulting legacy of intra-racial segregation have sometimes pitted darker-skinned and lighter-skinned blacks against one another.

Lured into a house of hate, a black West Virginia woman was raped, choked, stabbed and forced to eat dog and rat feces as her six white tormentors berated her with the N-word, prosecutors said yesterday.

The ghastly week-long ordeal for 20-year-old Megan Williams ended Saturday when she stumbled out of her captors' shack near Charleston, pleading for help from cops responding to an anonymous tip at the address.

Among those facing hate-crimes prosecution in the gruesome case are two mothers and their two adult children, officials said.

"This seems like outright malice. It's something you'd see in a horror movie," said prosecutor Brian Abraham, adding that the FBI was assisting the investigation.

Williams, 20, is in a hospital recovering from days of torture, but she may never recover from the emotional trauma she's endured, her mother said.

"Every time they stabbed her, they called her 'n----r,'" Carmen Williams told The Charleston Gazette. "She wakes up in the middle of the night screaming, 'Mommy.' What's really bad is that we don't know everything they did to her. She is crying all the time."

While the Daily News tries to protect the identities of sexual-assault victims, Carmen Williams insisted the press identify her daughter so that the public is "aware that things like that will happen."

Cops said Megan Williams was intentionally lured into the trap by two people she thought were her friends.

"Apparently once they got her there they planned to do this," said Logan County Deputy Police Chief V.K. Dingess.

Arrested were Frankie Brewster, 49, and her son Bobby, 24. Also nabbed were Karen Burton, 46; her daughter Alisha, 23; Danny Combs, 20, and George Messer, 27.

Police were searching for two others, who allegedly drove her to the house.

The suspects took turns beating, stabbing, choking and sexually abusing Williams while constantly threatening her with death, according to a criminal complaint.

A rope was placed around Williams' neck, her hair was ripped out and she was made to eat dog and rat feces, drink from a toilet and lick up blood, the complaint charges. At one point, she was sexually assaulted while scalding water was poured on her body.

She was stabbed in the leg at least four times and both of her ankles were cut by a female suspect who allegedly taunted her, saying, "That's what we do to n-----s around here."

"They abused her sexually, stabbed her and probably would have killed her if they had not gotten caught," said Magistrate Leonard Codispoti. Link
